Responding to the relentless drive to reduce fuel costs and emissions while enhancing performance, the world’s fourth-largest energy business, TotalEnergies, blends standard diesel with EPC+ to create Excellium® Diesel, the next-generation premium diesel that reduces consumption, costs and carbon emissions by between 2% and 5%.

Excellium® Diesel, on the market since 2005, is available in bulk and through more than 17,000 service stations worldwide. It is purchased by some 8 million customers every day and used on every brand of equipment and in every environment known to man. It meets all international specifications for which OEM engines are approved (EN 590, ISO 8217, etc.) and meets all performance requirements of the Worldwide Fuel Charter.

Commercially available worldwide, Excellium grade diesel is used in just about every vehicle brand, ensuring the product's performance and benefits.

EPC+ is blended with standard diesel, to create a high-quality premium diesel that reduces fuel consumption, costs, and emissions simultaneously and immediately - delivering:

  • 2% to 5% reduction in diesel consumption.

  • 2% to 5% reduction in carbon emissions.

  • 20% and 60% reduction in diesel particulate matter.

  • 97% reduction in fuel injector fouling.

  • 30% and 60% increase in fuel injector life.

  • 4% and 10% reduction in AdBlue costs.

Unlike its competitors, EPC+ is not an after-market product but rather an ingredient of the high-performing Excellium® Diesel sold worldwide directly to bulk customers (for use in all brands of vehicle) and sold globally through TotalEnergies 17,000+ service stations since 2005.

GreenTECH Fuel provides customers with access to Excellium-grade premium diesel without needing to change fuel suppliers or pay the premium price associated with fully imported premium diesel. EPC+ is delivered directly to the customers site or sites and blended with diesel using technology developed and supplied by GreenTECH Fuel.

For customers, the only differences between Excellium® Diesel and EPC+ blended with their standard diesel are the location of blending.

The seven components of EPC+ facilitate deposit control, cetane improvement, friction modifiers, corrosion inhibitors, antioxidants, a demulsifier, and foaming reduction, delivering:

  • Increases diesel cetane by about +2/+3pt, improving combustion.

  • Reduces engine wear.

  • Protects the fuel installations from corrosion.

  • Increases oxidation stability, which is a benefit for biodiesels

  • Improves fuel durability.

  • Reduces supply chain variability.

  • Provides an audit trail by way of a lab marker.

A 100% renewable diesel, HVO100 can be used immediately without any modifications to engines or fuel infrastructure. It offers superior combustion, filterability and cold-weather performance compared with conventional diesel fuels. Many engineers regard HVO100 as the most practical and effective paraffinic fuel for immediately reducing carbon emissions.

A drop-in fuel, HVO100:

  • Delivers at least a 95% reduction in NGERs-measured CO₂ emissions.

  • Replaces conventional diesel without requiring any modifications to vehicles or equipment.

  • Requires no changes to existing maintenance schedules or procedures.

  • Provides superior cold-start performance and storage stability.

  • Reduces local pollutant emissions, including particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen oxides (NOx).

Fossil-free hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) diesel is a renewable fuel produced from sustainably sourced vegetable oils, waste fats and animal residues. It is at least 95% carbon neutral and is manufactured using feedstocks that do not contribute to deforestation or compete with food production. HVO100 is a high-quality fuel with a chemical structure that is very similar to conventional mineral diesel, enabling it to fully replace fossil diesel in approved applications.

HVO100 Renewable Diesel complies with the EN 15940 specification and the Australian Fuel Quality Standards (Paraffinic Diesel) Determination 2025. With a density of 765–800 kg/m³ compared with 820–850 kg/m³ for conventional mineral diesel, HVO100 operates seamlessly in modern diesel engines and has been approved by many leading engine and vehicle manufacturers.

Compared with biodiesel, HVO100 Renewable Diesel offers several advantages:

  • Unlike conventional biodiesel, HVO100 is a true drop-in fuel that can be used neat or blended in any proportion with mineral diesel while delivering superior greenhouse gas emissions reductions.

  • HVO100 typically achieves greater reductions in NOx emissions than biodiesel, contributing to lower overall CO₂-equivalent emissions.

  • Biodiesel generally exhibits poorer cold-flow characteristics than HVO100. HVO100 performs exceptionally well in low-temperature conditions and often outperforms conventional mineral diesel in cold-weather operation.

HVO100 Premium is the premium version of HVO100. It incorporates HVO100 (which is up to 95% carbon-neutral) and 0.007 parts per million of EPC+, which is designed to reduce both fuel consumption and emissions by a further 2% to 5%. Reducing fuel consumption by 2% to 5% will, by definition, reduce fuel costs by a similar amount.
Unlike biodiesel, HVO100 can be used without blending with mineral diesel, thereby maximising potential emissions savings. HVO100 can also be blended with mineral diesel to reduce overall fuel costs and, more specifically, the cost differential between HVO100 and mineral diesel.

HVO100 Premium+ is the super-premium version of HVO100. It incorporates HVO100 (which is up to 95% carbon-neutral) and EPC+ in the quantity required to reduce the fuel consumption and emissions associated with both the HVO100 and the mineral diesel with which it is blended.

In other words, HVO100 Premium+ is specifically designed for blending with mineral diesel, thereby reducing the cost differential between mineral diesel and HVO100. However, because of the additional EPC+ included, HVO100 Premium+ also reduces fuel consumption and emissions, further lowering the average cost of fuel.

Many regard HVO100 Premium+ as the most cost-effective way of using HVO100.

HVO100 from TotalEnergies is ISCC-certified. ISCC certification verifies the feedstock (ensuring that it contains no palm oil, rapeseed oil or linseed oil), the integrity of the supply chain, carbon accounting, and auditability against recognised sustainability requirements. This makes HVO100 from TotalEnergies a benchmark product in renewable diesel, helping users maximise the sustainability value of their fuel choices.

To avoid accusations of greenwashing and demonstrate credible environmental performance, businesses in Australia should purchase only ISCC-certified HVO100 and ensure that the certification can be independently verified.
