In 2005, the world's fourth-largest energy company, TotalEnergies, launched Excellium premium diesel. Excellium® Diesel is a next-generation premium diesel that reduces fuel consumption, operating costs and carbon emissions by between 2% and 5%. Excellium premium diesel is sold in bulk to fleet and industrial users and through more than 17,000 TotalEnergies service stations worldwide. Today, Excellium premium diesel is widely regarded as a best-in-class fuel.

In 2024, TotalEnergies agreed to make EPC+, the ingredient in Excellium premium diesel that reduces fuel consumption, costs and emissions, available in Australia through GreenTECH Fuel. Australian trials have confirmed average fleet savings of between 4.1% and 4.2% in diesel consumption, costs and emissions when using EPC+. Trials have even recorded savings of more than 4.5% when EPC+ is blended into a leading premium diesel widely used in Australia.

With the appointment of GreenTECH Fuel, EPC+, which was previously available only as a premixed component of diesel, became available to Australian businesses and consumers in a postmix format. Using the BK blending kits developed by GreenTECH Fuel, customers across Australia can, for the first time, reduce diesel consumption, costs and emissions without changing fuel suppliers, and at a lower cost than may have been possible if supplied by TotalEnergies in a premix format.

The benefits of EPC+, whether supplied in premix or postmix format, include:

• 2% to 5% reduction in diesel consumption.

• 2% to 5% reduction in carbon emissions.

• 20% to 60% reduction in diesel particulate matter.

• 97% reduction in fuel injector fouling.

• 30% to 60% increase in fuel injector life.

• 4% to 10% reduction in AdBlue costs.

To achieve these results, EPC+ is blended into standard or premium diesel at a rate of just 0.007 parts per million. At this exceptionally low dosage rate, a single IBC of EPC+, delivering an average fleet saving of 4%, can save approximately 57,000 litres of diesel.

To facilitate the use of EPC+, GreenTECH Fuel developed the BK01 blending kit, assembled in Australia for Australian conditions. Since developing the BK01 in 2025, GreenTECH Fuel has refined both the technology and configuration of the system, resulting in the BK02 and BK03. These blending kits ensure accurate and consistent dosing of EPC+ as diesel is pumped into storage tanks.

BK03, designed for customers consuming between 3 million and 20 million litres of diesel per year, includes a range of features developed specifically for Australian conditions:

• Enclosed, lockable poly bund with a 250-litre day tank and a separate cabinet for blending system components.

• Compact footprint with flexible access options.

• 4G or satellite remote connectivity.

BK04, designed for customers consuming between 20 million and 50 million litres of diesel per year, includes additional features such as:

• Housed within a 10-foot DG self-bunded container.

• Cyclone-region compatible design.

• 500-litre day tank.

• Capacity to house two IBCs.

BK05C, custom-designed for customers consuming more than 50 million litres of diesel per year, includes additional features such as:

• Housed within custom cabinets or self-bunded tanks.

• Storage tank sizing tailored to operational requirements and planned EPC+ deliveries in ISO containers.

• ISO tank unloading pump.

The blending systems developed by GreenTECH Fuel have attracted international interest, with organisations overseas exploring opportunities to adopt and deploy this technology in their own markets. In Australia, these highly durable blending kits are competitively priced to provide users with a short payback period and strong return on investment.

The tables below illustrate the financial returns available to mining and transport operators using EPC+ delivered through a GreenTECH Fuel blending kit. The examples are based on annual diesel consumption of 40 million litres and a confirmed reduction in fuel consumption of between 4.1% and 4.2%.
