It is true that HVO100, from TotalEnergies, the world’s fourth largest energy business is 95% carbon-neutral and can be used without any modification to the vehicles using it. Yes, it is also true that HVO100, drop in renewable diesel is more expensive that standard mineral diesel. But the additional cost can be readily mitigated.

There are two strategies businesses are using to mitigate the cost of HVO100. They are:
· Blending HVO100 with standard mineral diesel.
· Using HVO100 in conjunction with EPC+.
While businesses wanting to achieve the 95% reduction in carbon-emissions need to use HVO100 neat (something which cannot be done with other biodiesels) it can also be blended with standard mineral diesel which enables business to average down the additional cost of HVO100.
HVO100 can also be used in conjunction with EPC+ from TotalEnergies, the world’s fourth largest energy business. EPC+ can help defray the additional cost of HVO100 in two ways.
Businesses can use EPC+ for some applications (for example, generators) while using HVO100 for other applications (for example, trucks), again averaging down the overall cost. EPC+ has been sold in bulk and through 17,000 service stations in Europe since 2005. It consistently reduces diesel consumption, costs and emissions by 2% to 5%. As the tables following demonstrate, the use of EPC+ delivers a net saving that can subsidise any additional investment in HVO100.
Another strategy involves blending EPC+ with HVO100 to produce a premium HVO100 diesel that reduces the consumption of HVO100 by 2% to 5% - reducing costs and indeed, further reducing emissions. Premium HVO100 promises to be the next big trend in diesel fuel.
These are just three strategies for reducing to costs associated with using HVO100. HVO100 is more expensive but it need not break the bank. GreenTECH Fuels are also introducing a service it believes will further reduce the gap between the price of standard mineral diesel and HVO100.
